Cruz Foam, based in Santa Cruz, CA, is a pioneering materials science company offering a sustainable alternative to conventional plastic foams like expanded polystyrene (EPS) and expanded polyethylene (EPE).
Their compostable foam products are specifically designed for protective packaging, excelling in both block and brace and cushioning and insulation applications.
Cruz Foam is crafted from ingredients specifically designed to degrade over time. 70% of their formula is derived from upcycled food waste.
By diverting this food waste from landfills—where it could take years to decompose and produce harmful methane emissions—they give it a second life as a valuable component of their foam.
Cruz Foam has passed ASTM D6400 and D5338 compostability testing. These tests proved their foam biodegrades in approximately 100 days. More specifically, Cruz Foam biodegrades within 103 days in industrial conditions.
Additionally, Cruz Foam can be integrated into a closed-loop recycling system and be regranulated and repurposed to create new cruise foam products, maintaining its original form.
Also of note, Cruz Foam is one of the only Lomi-approved packaging products available today.
