Hello, I’m Kristi Duvall with The BoxMaker and I’m here with your Quarterly Packaging Report, bringing you the top custom packaging news that you need to know.
April is Earth Month, and sustainable packaging solutions are top of mind for both brands and consumers. If you’re looking for packaging that not only utilizes recycled and recyclable materials but is also manufactured in an earth-friendly way, look no further than digitally produced corrugated packaging. Digital print and finishing reduces raw material usage and eliminates much of the waste associated with conventional print methods for custom box production.

Next, we continue on the topic of sustainability with Walmart’s Sustainable Packaging Guidelines. The major retailer released these guidelines to help companies align their brand packaging with Walmart’s sustainability goals.
Walmart’s commitment to sustainability plays a significant role in influencing industry standards. In 2017, Walmart initiated Project Gigaton™ to involve suppliers and other stakeholders in climate action. Through this project, Walmart targets to reduce one billion metric tons (a gigaton) of greenhouse gases from the global value chain by 2030.
Consumer Packaged Goods brands play a pivotal role in meeting Walmart's ambitious goal. As suppliers to the retail giant, CPG brands are expected to adhere to Walmart's sustainable packaging standards, ensuring that products reach consumers in packaging that is environmentally responsible.

Our final story for this quarter features a new sustainable packaging product that’s curbside recyclable, tailored for your product, and can be integrated directly into your shipper box for streamlined pack-out efficiency.
We’re talking about Hexpand, the new patented weave corrugated product taking the packaging world by storm. Hexpand is a paper-based suspension and retention protective packaging solution that ensures robust product protection while adhering to eco-conscious principles. This new design is made entirely of corrugated board and offers a sustainable alternative to traditional resin-based solutions to meet the evolving needs of consumers and brands, without compromising on product protection or environmental responsibility.
Hexpand is highly versatile and can be incorporated into existing box structures or used as a stand-alone insert. Each project is custom designed to meet the specific size, weight, and protective needs of the product being packaged.
